30th-Sep-2008 02:13 pm - Internet Exam and Spaceballs
Smiley
My Google-Fu is failing me. Possibly about two years ago I ran across a quiz that was supposed to decide whether you were worthy to be allowed on the internet. I recall one of the questions had to do with proper use of the apostrophe. I think another may have involved whether or not to replay to a chain/virus-warning email. If you passed the test it welcomed you to the internet and if you failed informed you that you were not yet smart enough for the internet. Now I want to show it to someone, but I can't figure out where the heck it is...

Spaceballs this evening. I'm planning on going, anyone else? I was going to ask people over IM, but I haven't been online away from work much this past week. If others are going, would you rather hit the 6:30 or 8:35? Should we eat somewhere before the movie or will it be the full theater experience with pricey hotdogs and pop corn?

Here is the original Spaceballs post on the THEM Community.

Everyone seems to be doing this, and I was curious enough to go look. I understand it's based on some books, may have to check them out...

So, anyone around here read the books and have an opinion?
16th-Jan-2007 01:21 am - Avatar the Last Airbender directed by who?!
Smiley
So the word on the street is that there will be a live action Avatar the Last Airbender movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

All I can say is, please, no twist ending. Well that and, please take the time to get what the source material is about. Okay also, please have some people on hand to make sure the bending martial arts don't look like people who have taken drugs waving their arms about randomly (some of what's in the show is nice, some of it is uh, less than nice).

Done well this could make for a nice fantasy movie. If not, prime MST3K material.
10th-Dec-2005 03:58 pm - Alright, 1970s wire-fu!
Smiley
Just caught the end of a martial arts movie from 1974, Sister Street Fighter, which has at the end a short wire-fu like sequence (although I suspect they just used creative camera angles). One of the villains and the female martial artist both leap in the air and have a final mid-air struggle.

Poor villain, must have really burned in the 70s to have a fancy three bladed claw-knife and get defeated by an unarmed woman. Then again in the sequel we have a gang armed with guns getting defeated by using nothing more than smoke grenades, billy clubs and simple kicks and punches.

I guess it has been quite some time that it has been hard to find a good villain. :) Yikes, it really has been. The silly villains just hired the martial artist to fetch a drug runner and his briefcase, and tried to pay him with newspaper clippings... Silly villains.
